Laura Boudreau's 2nd and 3rd Graders in North Bennington, Vermont

Laura Boudreau teaches 2nd and 3rd grades at North Bennington Graded School
in North Bennington, Vermont. Reading the local newspaper they were all saddened by the sea turtle crisis in the Gulf of Mexico after the major Deepwater Horizon oil spill. They decided that they wanted to help! After checking out the Sea Turtle Restoration Project web site, they decided that we could help by asking their school community to bring in donations to put in a special jar during a three day period of time. After only three days they raised $200.00 to help the Sea Turtle Restoration Project!

The students also decided to write persuasive letters to the NMFS Deputy Chief of the Endangered Species Division to encourage greater protections of the endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtle habitat on the coast of Texas.

"My students were proud that they found a positive way to help a difficult situation," said Laura.

Dozens of letters were sent from Laura's classes in support of increased protections for the Kemp's ridleys!
