Leatherback sea turtles in the Pacific ocean are being driven towards extinction at a rate faster than they can recover. After hatching, a leatherback will not nest until is it is 15-20 years old, meaning decades are needed for some conservation actions to be reflected in the most accurate populations, those of the nesting females.
