Florida Longline Eco-Certification Company Downplays Opposition

Fishery Assessment Continues Despite ByCatch of Sea Turtles

copyright Alan F Rees / ARCHELON

In response to objections from the ocean protection community and thousands of individuals across the U.S. and Canada, the certification company MRAG Americas is moving forward with the process for eco-labeling the high-bycatch Florida longline fishery. The response letter can be downloaded in PDF by clicking here.

We will continue to engage in the stakeholder process to point out the harm to endangered sea turtles and other marine life in this fishery and the dangerous precedent eco-labeling this longline fishery would set by giving it a "green" seal of approval.
