With the support of over 30,000 members and activists, the Sea Turtle Restoration Project achieved the following in the past year:

We saved the lives of endangered sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico by stopping British Petroleum and the U.S. Coast Guard from burning oil during cleanup efforts without first rescuing sea turtles and other marine wildlife from the area.

We also compelled "Unified Command" to double the number of boats deployed in the Gulf to rescue oiled sea turtles.

Through our campaigns to limit industrial fishing, we ensured that NO sea turtles were killed in fishing operations off the U.S. West Coast in 2010.

We defeated an industrial longline fishing company and denied its proposal to employ this destructive fishing method in California's rich coastal waters for the first time.

Drift Gillnet fishing has been closed since 2001 in over 100,000 square miles along the West Coast for a four-month period each year to protect the leatherbacks. This important Leatherback Conservation Area has resulted in NO leatherback deaths since it was put in place.

As a result of legal action, we compelled the federal government to protect 70,000 square miles of endangered Pacific leatherback foraging habitat off of the coasts of California and Oregon.

Through our sister organization, PRETOMA, we supported a team of volunteers who monitored 25 continuous miles of sea turtle nesting beach in Costa Rica, and protected and safely returned more than 61,000 sea turtle hatchlings to the sea.

We halted threatened tourism development on Playa Grande inside Las Baulas National Park, Costa Rica, an important leatherback sea turtle nesting beach.

We collected scientific data to help move forward a proposal to protect the biologically-rich sea turtle 'swimway' between Cocos and Galapagos Islands and the Costa Rican mainland.

We geared up strategic efforts to oppose two fossil fuel production facility projects - one a U.S.-based Chevron Corporation facility in the beautiful Australian Kimberley region, and another funded through U.S. taxpayer dollars in Papua New Guinea.

Our Got Mercury Campaign helped convince consumers to eat less tuna, swordfish and other long-lived predator fish that are caught by turtle-deadly longlines and are high in mercury.

We counteracted the "greenwashing" of high-mercury and turtle-deadly, longline-caught tuna and swordfish as healthy and sustainable.

Through undercover investigations, we revealed high mercury levels in a random sampling of fish from supermarkets and restaurants and alerted the public through significant media coverage, helping protect public health.

Through in-class presentations, we educated 3,475 schoolchildren about how they can help protect sea turtles.

Sent over 100,000 messages which resulted in actions taken by 62,000 STRP supporters on our online actions and petitions, demonstrating the public's support for stronger protections for sea turtles.
