Eight-year-old Ford Carlos fell in love with sea turtles when he saw hundreds of hatchlings swim to the ocean on his visit to Nicaragua in January, 2012.
"I like them because they are an endangered species," he said. Ford said he watched a film about how marine debris and especially plastic are harmful to sea turtles and their habitat. "If they swallow a plastic bag, they will die." So his mom, Shelly Carlos, decided to cut down on the household's use of plastics.
Ford wanted to help, so he held a yard sale at his home in Salida, Colorado and raised $437 for the Sea Turtle Restoration Project. Thank you, Ford!
