It's exciting to know that these rare and ancient ocean dwellers still find their way through fishing fleets, ships and tankers, and oil rigs to reach Texas shores, the primary U. S. nesting site. See the Kemp's Ridley nesting video.

 Most of the Texas turtles find safe nesting along the beaches of Padre Island National Seashore. The only other place that the Kemp's ridleys nest in large numbers is at Rancho Nuevo, Mexico.With more protections such as a marine reserve along the Texas coast, the Kemp's ridleys has a chance of thriving into the next millenium and beyond.
