 | | Each year, leatherback sea turtles swim across the entire north Pacific to feed on jellyfish offshore of California, Oregon, and Washington. |

Key coastal legislators have voiced their support for protecting waters where Pacific leatherbacks feed on jellyfish for half the year. Lynn Woolsey, Congresswoman in the U.S. House of Representatives, California Assemblymembers Jared Huffman, Pedro Nava and William Monning and Senator Mark Leno joined forces to call for a permanent safe haven for leatherbacks along the entire coasts of California, Oregon and Washington. They urged that the proposed area be expanded and commercial fishing impacts be considered a significant threat to leatherbacks migrating across the Pacific to reach their feeding grounds.
