Ocean Advocates Oppose Eco-label for Florida Fishery

Turtle Deadly Longline Fishery is Not Sustainable for Sea Turtles
May 10th, 2011

Today Turtle Island Restoration Network and a coalition of ocean conservation groups notified the Marine Stewardship Council that they opposed the proposed certification of the Florida longline fishery for swordfish due to its capture of endangered sea turtles. Download the TIRN detailed letter as PDF files below. Click here to read the shorter coalition letter.

The comments were sent following a day-long stakeholder meeting on the fishery held by Marine Stewardship Council today in Washington D.C.

The deadline to comment is May 16 so it is not too late to take action to oppose this unsustainable fishery. Click here to oppose the fishery certification.
