Barcelona Boyd (11), a 6th grader at California Montessori Project School last year was given a homework assignment to pick a cause, make a plan of action and execute it. With her activism and determination, Barcelona raised enough money to adopt not just one but SIX sea turtle nests, and encouraged the resulting pass of the Leatherback State Marine Reptile Bill by Governor Brown this October! |

These motivated 2nd and 3rd graders read about the sad situation in the Gulf of Mexico after the tragic oil spill from the Deepwater Horizon. They wanted to help save sea turtles! The class raised $150 for the Sea Turtle Restoration Project and all wrote letters in support of protected habitats for the endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtles. |
