The California Department of Fish & Wildlife’s Fisheries Restoration Grant Program announced 2014 funding totaling $525,307 for four projects in West Marin.
My two previous trips to Cocos Island were on the MV Argo, another of the Undersea Hunter fleet, to assist biologists from the U.S.-based Sea Turtle Restoration Network ( STRN; www.seaturtles.org ) and the Costa Rican group PRETOMA (www.pretoma.org ). Our mission was to tag sharks and capture sea turtles at Cocos’ iconic dive sites, which meant I had to override my “programming” of not harassing sea life.
The official Texas sea turtle’s numbers are declining, and so are the ranks of the Galveston volunteer patrols that protect their nests.
This letter shows that leading scientist like Dr. Sylvia Earle, Dr. Peter Moyle and Dr. John McCosker all support for stronger, science-based protections for coho critical habitat in Marin County.
