Turtle Island Restoration Network (TIRN), an award-winning marine wildlife protection organization with offices in California, Texas and Hawai’i, seeks a part-time or full-time Social Media/Marketing Intern to join our fast-paced, innovative environmental organization based in Marin County, California.

Through our Ocean Wildlife Program initiatives and Salmon Protection and Watershed Network, we are leading the grassroots fight against extinction locally, nationally and internationally. We take on the big problems of the world’s oceans — industrial fishing, climate change, and pollution — with a can-do attitude.

TIRN is a leading environmental organization whose mission is to take swift and decisive action to protect and restore marine and aquatic species and their habitats and to inspire people in communities all over the world to join us as active and vocal advocates. We are headquartered in Marin County, California with offices in Galveston, Texas and Maui, Hawaii.  Our work is global and local.  We use a diverse conservation toolbox that includes grassroots action, policy development, research and monitoring, coalition building and strategic litigation.

We advocate. TIRN shapes national and international public policy by developing unique solutions to pressing issues impacting our oceans.

We motivate grassroots action. We engage our hundreds of thousands of supporters through social media, citizen science and hands-on conservation programs.

The Position

Overview:

TIRN is looking to recruit a Social Media/Marketing Intern who will be working with our team to develop and expand our Social Media/Marketing strategy. This is a great learning and training opportunity for the right candidate to get significant hands on experience at a non-profit organization committed to protecting and restoring endangered marine wildlife species and habitat. Through this internship you will help brainstorm ways to better use our membership lists to expand our reach on social media platforms. Have creative fundraising strategies? We’d love to hear them! Bring your innovative ideas for reaching as many people as possible through social media and marketing to the table. Exciting new changes are happening here and we are seeking a creative, passionate mind to be an integral part of it. Build with us while growing your knowledge and sharpening your skill set.

Qualifications:

  • Empathy for marine species and an interest or passion for working to make the world a better place
  • A strong understanding of social media platforms, including Facebook, Tw­­­­itter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn
  • Ability to create thoughtful content that will engage our communities on social media
  • Photography and/or video skills
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks
  • A college degree or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with use of media databases (Meltwater is what we use) and CRM platforms such as Salesforce and Engaging Networks are a plus (We will also provide training on these platforms)
  • Experience in planning fundraising and other public events are a plus
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Terms

This is an unpaid internship at TIRN’s office in Olema, California, but it has the potential to become a paid position for the right candidate. This position reports to the Director of Development.

For candidates interested in interning full time, housing will be provided in a redwood forest adjacent to State and National Parklands just 25 miles north of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge.
