Harry McGrath

Harry is the Native Plant Nursery Intern, responsible for seed collection, propagation, and transplanting of native plants in our nursery that contains over 8,000 plants. He studied Conservation Biology and Science Communication at the University of Western Australia and moved to San Francisco in 2017.

As one of our naturalists Harry is responsible for leading creek walks exploring the Lagunitas Creek Watershed. This requires customizing the program for groups ranging from elementary students to college classes, to families on the weekend. These tours set out to engage participants in learning about the ecology of the endangered native population of California Coho salmon, as well as encouraging people to become advocates for the salmon and providing them with actions they can take to make a difference.

Harry is working to pursue a career in environmental education, so he is also leading a project to compile and design a manual to help teachers incorporate native plants and habitat gardens into their standards-aligned science units.

Through writing social media posts and using his talent for photography Harry is able to amplify our conservation message while helping to document the progress of restoration projects and volunteer programs.
