Vera Leone (Membership & Office Manager)
Vera Leone came to Turtle Island in May 2017 with 15 years of experience in environmental advocacy and social justice work. Born in Rochester, NY, in the Genesee River watershed on Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) land, she graduated from Guilford College with a B.A. in Earth Studies and a concentration in Environmental Studies. Vera cut her organizing teeth in the Latin America solidarity movement, and in 2003 served a six-month prison term for nonviolent civil disobedience at the School of the Americas. She led human rights delegations to Colombia, Cuba and Honduras, exploring the impacts of US policies on the waters, lands and peoples there. Vera has lived in Europe and Latin America, and is grateful beyond measure to have come to the magical land and waterscape of Marin County, in traditional Coast Miwok territory. She is passionate about collective liberation, singing, and her beautiful bike.
