Californians Against Longlines
Tuesday, November 19 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Your government is proposing to reopen a fishing practice so destructive it has pushed sea turtles towards extinction and decimated other marine populations! Stand with us in telling the Pacific Fishery Management Council that you are against this atrocity. Not on our watch! Not in our waters! On November 19th, be the voice for turtles, sharks and all other sea life that can’t speak for themselves!
Industrial longlines float horizontally in the ocean for up to 60 miles in length with thousands of baited hooks which indiscriminately attract and kill anything that crosses their path. Our waters are not free from these longlines! Despite being banned in California for decades, approved experimental vessels are actively operating offshore today— and with planned expansion.
Join us at the PFMC meeting in protest of these negligent actions that put innocent lives at risk. With your help, together we can change the fate for endangered sea turtles and other marine species before its too late! Californians against longlines unite!
The first 10 TIRN members who are able to attend will receive a FREE sea turtle t-shirt!
We will be meeting in the Hotel Lobby at 10:00am. Look for Annalisa — she will be wearing her Turtle Island Restoration Network tee shirt proudly! Upon arrival, we will assist you in filling out a public comment card.
We will also have a small conference room in the hotel reserved for activists where we can hang out, make signs, and discuss public testimony comments. (You can also click here to view, save, and print a small sign you can hold at the meeting to let the commission know that we cannot open up the California coast to become the nail in the coffin for critically endangered sea turtles.)
RSVP is required for this event. Click here to RSVP for this event, or contact Annalisa at email@example.com.
