Planting Volunteer Day
November 13, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Help SPAWN plant native plants and trees for healthy streams! We will be planting on our Roy’s Riffles restoration site along San Geronimo Creek, one of the most important habitats left for endangered Coho salmon on the central California coast.
Last summer SPAWN removed a 100-year-old dam (Roy’s Dam) that was obstructing Coho salmon and steelhead trout from swimming freely above and below the dam, creating and restoring approximately five acres of creek habitat. On Saturday, November 13, volunteers will help to further restore this area by planting ground covers such as grass plugs, sedges, blackberries, and perennials such as mugwort, bee plant, and cow parsnip. These plants establish and spread their root systems quickly, binding soil and stabilizing the newly cut slopes.
The event will run from 10am to 2pm. Volunteers are encouraged to bring water, sun/rain protection, and wear work clothes and close-toed shoes that have good traction. Meet across the street from 485 San Geronimo Valley Drive in San Geronimo. Parking is available through the gate.
