SUMMARY:Microplastic Task Force- Virtual Info Meeting | September 10th
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our virtual Microplastic Task Force info meeting September 10th\, 6:00pm-7:00pm CT. \nOur microplastic task force is a dedicated group of volunteers gaining experience with TIRN’s Citizen science microplastics program by collecting and processing sand and water samples to then categorize the types and quantities of microplastics found along Galveston Island. \nBegining in 2017\, our microplastic study is supported by volunteers\, interns\, and students that help collect\, process\, and analyze samples. In the past between 2021-2024\, the project has been in partnership with the Environmental Institute of Houston (EIH) at University Houston of Clear Lake which resulted in the Final Report: Microplastics in the Galveston Bay Watershed: The Big Impacts of Tiny Pollution. Since then we still conduct seasonal microplastic sampling with the help of volunteers\, interns and the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary (FGBNMS) staff who collects water samples above the FGBNMS. \nThis info meeting will walk you through the steps TIRN’s Microplastic Citizen Science program follows\, why collecting this data is important and what it is showing so far\, and how microplastics are impacting marine wildlife and the ocean. \nOnce you RSVP you will receive the zoom link on the confirmation page and via the email you provide. \nRSVP HERE
