Our new floodplain side channel network created during the Lagunitas Creek Floodplain and Riparian Restoration Project has seen flowing water for the first time!

The recent “pulse” flow of water released from Peter’s Dam has found its way into our side channels, bringing with it gravel, rocks and sand- indicating where pools and riffles will begin to form.

The “pulse” flow released 55 cubic feet/second on Friday, which was enough to create a depth of 1.5 feet in places. With more water, fish will begin to discover this new habitat, hopefully finding slow water and insects to forage on throughout the winter and spring.
