Golf Course Sale Completed

By Todd Steiner, Executive Director for Turtle Island Restoration Network

On January 4, 2018 the Trust for Public Land closed escrow on the San Geronimo Golf Course, despite efforts by golfers and others to prevent the purchase.

Attempts to thwart the sale have included a lawsuit and an orchestrated barrage of letters to the editors and opinion-editorials in local papers disparaging all parties involved including Supervisor Rodoni, the Trust for Public Land, and other “extremist environmentalists,” which basically includes all Marin County organizations.

Despite facts to the contrary, a common theme of these pieces are that the majority of Marin County residents do not support the acquisition, notwithstanding the preponderance of public testimony and letters to Marin County Supervisors that clearly favored the purchase.

The lawsuit was filed by local realtor Niz Brown, treasurer of a San Geronimo property rights group, with other group members and is expected to have no impact on the County’s plan to purchase the course from the Trust for Public Land.

What you can do: Send letters to editors to the Marin IJ and Point Reyes Light newspapers indicating your support for the acquisition and restoration of the golf course to protect salmon habitat.
