A message from Todd Steiner, Executive Director of Turtle Island Restoration Network:

I have some incredible news. Thanks in large part to emails sent by our supporters, we have achieved a major victory for one of America’s most endangered species.

Earlier this week, in Northern California, the Marin County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the purchase of a failing golf course with the intention of returning this land to protected public lands and habitat for critically endangered coho salmon. Read all about the local movement to protect endangered coho salmon here.

I want to thank everyone who has sent letters and supported our work to protect salmon over the decades – from those who have helped us plant redwoods saplings to those who have made donations to those who have rescued baby fish from tributaries that were drying up.

This is possibly the most significant land purchase for endangered coho salmon in our generation.

While we are celebrating and optimistic, we know that the hard work, the real work, is about to begin, and we need your support to ensure that this land is returned to the salmon.

Please make a tax-deductible donation today to celebrate this victory and allow us to make sure that this land is protected for one of America’s most endangered species.

While the land purchase process begins, we need your support to:

  • Watchdog the county visioning process to make sure that the intention of the purchase is honored – to protect and restore critical habitat for coho salmon – and that no inappropriate backdoor development or use is allowed on this land, and
  • Continue the hands on restoration work that we do so well. For years, we have helped restore the land of the golf course to improve salmon habitat – from removing invasive plants to planting willows and other native plants to stabilizing the banks. We have vast experience and can lead this restoration like no other organization.

Thanks so much for your ongoing support and for being part of this significant victory. We could not have done it without you.

Thanks!

Todd Steiner, Executive Director
