Galveston, Texas (May 8, 2014) – Turtle Island Restoration Network will be celebrating the first anniversary of the Kemp’s ridley sea turtle being named the Texas’s state sea turtle with a Shell-e-bration on Saturday, May 10 at Stewart Beach Park.
As part of Turtle Island’s Shell-e-bration event the National Marine Fisheries Service will be releasing two juvenile Kemps ridley sea turtles at 2 pm. Lyndsey Howell, Research Fishery Biologist with NOAA/NMFS, will give a short talk prior to the release.

(In front of the pavilion). An area will be coned off so the public can view the release.

WHY: To raise awareness about the endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtles.
