The No. 1 protector of California’s endangered coho salmon, Turtle Island Restoration Network’s Salmon Protection And Watershed Network (SPAWN), is partnering with the No. 1 Golf Course in Marin County, San Geronimo Golf Course (SGGC), to directly improve coho salmon habitat as outlined in the new “The Coho-Friendly Habitat and Operations Plan.”

The science-based plan undertaken as part of a grant from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), obtained by the SPAWN, outlines efforts to aide in salmon recovery.

Key goals include:

  • Directly improve coho salmon habitat using instream wood structures, widen the riparian floodplain habitat, and enhance existing side channel features. These proposed improvements will create better spawning and over-wintering habitat for all life stages of salmon.
  • Reduce stormwater runoff, improve water quality within the streams, and manage high flows.
  • Improve golf course operations and management (water use, integrated pest management, and invasive species management)
