Galveston celebrates sea turtles!
The Mayor of Galveston and the City Council have proclaimed Saturday, April 9, as Sea Turtle Saturday when an educational day is set at Texas A&M University in Galveston and NOAA Fisheries Service. Several noted speakers are scheduled including Dr. Donna Shaver of the National Park Service at the Padre Island National Seashore. There will be a showing of “The Last Journey for the Leatherback?” during the morning program with an opportunity for viewers to sign a petition for the campaign for a moratorium about longline fishing. Training will be held for those interested in beach patrolling this spring and summer. Last year five endangered Kemp’s ridleys nested in the Galveston area.
